    Branding & Identity Development

Serious Play is not an advocate of an artist themselves identity becoming too self conscious of “self- branding.”  Galleries on the other hand can do this, and when done carefully will elevate your career.  Barnett will take deep dives into your persona. Then find out what makes you tick and create an authentic series of words that best describe your identity.  Serious Play will also look at your artistic influences, and see how they can be woven into your own true story.  This is as much about the how of you as it is “the why.”

    Branding Tips to Use

All artists have an unusual story about their first artistic endeavors as children.  Barnett has always tapped into this, those early a-hah moments can be fascinating and will enhance and increase your odds of finding collectors for your works.  He will also guide you toward reading materials that will help unlock elements, that can be “new material” for subject matter.

Even seasoned mature artists have new stories to be told.  You never want to be in that shocking place, where, someone says, ”I already have one of those.” What this means is that there hasn’t been enough reinvention in your studio works, even if your style of works hasn’t changed.

Serious Play will talk about how to resist letting your galleries convince you that you make more of the same, year after year.  They will talk about how you rotate your works, and what that identity should look like on a yearly basis.  It can take years to refresh the interest in your works.  This is true, especially if clients,”have left the room,” so to speak.

Finally, Serious Play will talk about the written narratives that accompany what you do.  Their approach has always been about not saying what you want the public to feel, but what you felt when were making new works.  They will use art history to cite stunning examples of this.  Their goal is to get to know you deeply. Then together collaborate and amplify your personal stories that make you the artist you are.
