    Pricing Strategy & Market Analysis

    Take realistic pricing strategies into consideration.  It’s not uncommon for the issue of pricing as one of an artist’s discussions to have.  The fact is there are several different philosophies regarding this topic.  First and foremost, the consideration is about what percent does your gallery take from a sale? If you are represented in a gallery, and also selling works directly, in theory make the prices shown similar.  Here at Serious Play, we understand the value of exclusivity because our experience on this topic is extensive, having owned and operated an A-list gallery in Santa Fe, NM.

    Ivan Barnett will talk about your pricing and discuss in detail how to determine your market value. Know that this is as much an art as it is a science. Barnett will take an array of factors into our discussions, career arch- museum affiliations- past sales- plus a range of related topics.

    Pricing = Great Business

    Serious Play is not an advocate of artists following trends in the market place. Yet, there is still a place in that space to compare prices globally.  We will talk about scale and size of works, and how they relate to value and pricing.  Also, a discussion on the topic of “handling” of works, to and from exhibitions. Conversations with your galleries about business are necessary.  Most importantly, Barnett will work through with you the key issue of only making works that sell to give to your gallery or to sell directly.

    Barnett will also discuss the psychology of pricing.  Serious Play has always been a huge proponent of in-depth regular homework relating to what’s happening in the art world.  It’s your responsibility to do this.  Compartmentalization is key.

    Ivan will also be inquiring about how you manage your finances.  Many factors go into pricing.  His goal will be to listen extensively to where you are on this topic. Next, we will discuss the sales record you have had over the past several years.  Is it going in the direction you want and need?  And if not, what can we do to change things?
